How to nail that interview!
So congratulations they are interested! Now is the nerve
wracking bit meeting your possible new employer in this article I will be
listing some top tips and tricks to nail that interview and get that job!
Tip 1:don’t forget your pen
Okay not quite simple as just your pen but the main point be
prepared! Have they asked for documents? Have they gave you the address in
advance? Have you researched your possible employer of what they do? what you
will be doing? where you fit in? all of this prep! Trust me in comes in handy
to be over prepared then under prepared
Tip 2 don’t forget that zipper!
Again not quite that simple but point still stands, don’t
want any slip ups, look the part wear your nice shirt and know the dress code,
little cheat sheet…..formal=suit and tie, smart casual=jeans and a nice shirt,
casual=jeans and shirt, good little tip is if they say “just come in normal
clothes” you can just dress to impress anyway
Tip3 is that the time!
Okay so this sort of links in with tip 1 but try to show up
at least 15 mins before just so your interviewer isn’t waiting for you, being
punctual shows you value their time just as much as your own and shows you are
ready! try to plan ahead, get the address plan the trip and get the job, we are
routing for you!
Tip 4 : eyes on the prize!
Now you got this far youre waiting to be seen, look around,
notice boards, other employees (don’t stare of course) possible management
figures, don’t get caught with your finger in your nose (haha) be ready to
greet the interviewer.
Tip 5 uh oh whats my name again?
Now heres where the nerves kick in, youre waiting for your
interviewer, psst…don’t worry you made it this far youre doing great! All you
need to do is be confident, I know easier said then done believe me ive been
for plenty they never get easier, so your interviewer comes in “hi are you joe
bob?” stand up straight own that name “yes hi im joe bob nice to meet you”
maybe offer your hand to shake (a good firm not hand breaking but confident
hand shake).
Tip 6: take a seat.
A good thing I have learnt about job interviews is that you
should always wait to be seated, they usually ask you to take a seat, don’t say
“thank you” and walk out with a chair, sit down and await those dreaded
questions, don’t slouch and listen to everything, eye contact is key here no
more looking for the prize, the prize is right infront.
Tip 6 who the f$£* am i anyway?!
Oh this question “tell me about yours
elf” then suddenly you
have no idea who you are and feel like you`re a complete stranger to yourself,
don’t worry I have a tip, see the question different, instead of “tell me your
life story” see it as “why should I choose you?” big yourself up a bit for
example “well my name is joe bob, i have always had a skill of bringing a team
together to complete a common goal, I have also been successful working towards
a goal of my own accord (list an achievement you did yourself that would be
relatable to this role),I always strive to be better and improve wherever
necessary” just an example you get the idea, list your achievements, list
things that make you a perfect fit for this job
Tip 7 who the f$£*YOU anyway?!
Now you’ve answered his/her questions, it is your turn to
find out what you want to know, progression opportunities? Salary? Job they
want you to do? Leave no stone unturned come out with all the information you
need/want, you don’t want to leave and not know anything about the job you are
going to absolutely NAIL!
Tip 8 what are those digit’s?
Before leaving maybe get a contact, “if I have anymore
questions can I contact you?” they will usually give an extension on their
company phone or an email address, always handy to show you are very interested
Tip 9 shut the door on your way out
Now not literally unless asked to, and hopefully not for
long, upon exit of the interview, thank them for seeing you perhaps offer your
hand and just leave with a nice warm look forward to hearing from you,
Tip 10 aaaaaaaaand relax!
So you did it you made it, im proud of you, now get yourself
home, kick your feet up with a cuppa tea or coffee and wait for them to launch
you in the door
Bonus tip
Another door will open
Now if they decided to go with someone else, their loss for
starters I thought you did great, nailed everything, did you see that shirt you
wore? Damn id employ you in seconds! Don’t beat yourself up about it you will
get the job that is right for you it just takes time, i`m sure its nothing
personal, just pick yourself up, brush yourself and keep going.
